Setting up email in Microsoft Outlook

This tutorial shows you how to set up Microsoft Outlook to receive emails from your email account. This tutorial focuses on setting up Microsoft Outlook 2007, but these settings are similar in other versions of Microsoft Outlook and other email programs.

1. In Microsoft Outlook, select Tools -> Account Settings

2. On the E-mail Accounts wizard window, select New and click Next.

3. For your server type, select POP3 and click Next.

4. On Auto Account Set Up window, skip over all of the fields and select the tick box that says Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.

5. On Choose E-mail Service window, select Internet E-mail and click Next.

6. On the Internet E-mail Settings window, enter your information as follows:

Your Name
Enter your first and last name as you would like it to appear to those receiving your emails.

E-mail Address
Enter your e-mail address.

Account Type
Set it to POP3.

Incoming mail server
Your incoming server is mail.mysite.com.au, where "mysite.com.au" is the name of your domain.eg. mail.magicdust.com.au

Outgoing mail server (SMTP)
Enter the SMTP outgoing mail server of your ISP. (Your ISP is the company you get your internet from.)

For example:

mail.bigpond.com (for Bigpond users)

smtp.aapt.com.au (for AAPT Users)

mail.optusnet.com.au (for Optus users)

mail.tpg.com.au (for TPG users)

User Name
Enter your username for your EMAIL account. This will be in the format of: info+mysite.com.au eg. tamsin+magicdust.com.au

Password
Enter the password for your EMAIL account. (This is on the Official Handover Letter you recieved from Magicdust.)

Select the tick box that says Remember password.

Click Test Account Settings.

7. Outook will then take a few seconds to check your email set up, and return a confirmation that the email has been successfully created.

8. Click Close.

9. Click Next.

10. Click Finish.

11. This will return you back to the E-mail Accounts page. Click Close to complete your email set up.

eShop and eWeb - Verifying your website with Google

Verification of your website ensures that Google is aware of your site. In layman's terms, verification lets Google know you're alive. The process is simple, follow the steps below to verify your site:

1. Sign up to Google Webmaster tools. This service is free and can be found here: http://www.google.com/webmasters/

2. Click the Add a site... button.

3. Type the URL of your website, without the www

4. Select the drop down option for Verification Method and select Upload an HTML file to your server. Right click and save the verification HTML file. Do not change the file name of this file.

Please DO NOT select the meta tag option as this is unstable and often does not result in successful verification.

5. Attach the HTML verification file to an email and send it to support@magicdust.com.au. A member of our support team will upload this file to your website for you. You will receive a reply shortly after stating that this has been done. When you receive this reply, return to Google Webmaster Tools and hit the Verify button.

6. You should now see a verification completed message. Your site is now verified with Google and will be indexed shortly.

Checking email via webmail

In order to use this feature you need to either have to be using webmail as you only way to check emails OR have your email program setup to Leave a copy of the email on your server. We strongly recommend that you use an email program to check your emails.

Magicdust hosting service is not setup to allow for webmail to be your primary mode of accessing emails, primarily because the diskspace allocated to most email accounts is 10MB. This works well when you are accessing the emails via an email client like Outlook or Entourage, but is very limited for webmail use.

If you would prefer to always have webmail access, please speak to our support team to help you setup a POP 3 account with either gmail or hotmail etc. This will map your website email address to a commercial webmail account which works really well.

To check your webmail

1. Go to www.mysite.com.au/webmail, where mysite.com.au is your domain name.

2. Enter your full email address as your username and password and click OK.

3. You will then have three options of webmail program, we suggest you use
Roundcube to access your emails as it is the most user friendly, but all will work fine.

4. Click the logo to enter the program of your choice.

5. You will see a screen of any emails in the inbox.

Do I have an eWeb or an eShop?

In some instances, it is not immediately clear whether you are using one of our eWeb or eShop packages. It is easy to get the two confused, as you can sell items through an eWeb using Paypal. However, this is not the same as an eShop, which has a fully integrated cart system which can track inventory, register users, send invoices and much more. Therefore, to help you select the right area of the knowledgebase for you, we have prepared a few hints to help you work out whether you have an eWeb or an eShop.

The login address

When you first receive your website back from us, you will receive a handover letter. This will have details regarding where to go to log in and access your website.

For eWebs: Your login URL will be in this format: http://yourwebsiteaddress.com.au/mdz. Note the /mdz on the end.

For eShops: Your login URL will be in this format: http://yourwebsiteaddress.com.au/admin.php. Note the /admin.php on the end.

The login screens

Once you have typed the login URL into your browser, you will be presented with the log in screen. These are signficantly different between the eShop and the eWeb.

eShop Quick Start Guide The following guide gives you the ability to set up the basics of your eShop. This simple 7-step process was developed to assist you with the basic information necessary to conduct transactions. We recommend you complete these steps first before you begin adding products to you eShop. Additionally, we encourage you to spend sometime with the user manual to understand the system completely. Required fields are in bold. Step Two Go to: Cart Settings > Global Cart Settings > Global Site Settings Enter in your customer service and administrator e-mail, site name and URL information. Step Three Go to: Cart Settings > Payment Methods Select the payment methods you will be accepting. Be sure to click the edit button to make text adjustments and enter in text for the thank you page. Step Four Go to: Cart Settings > Shipping Management Select the shipping method you will allow your customers to use. You need to create your own custom methods. Step Five Go to: Cart Settings > Edit Taxes Set up your global tax rate for the eShop. Step Six Go to: Cart Settings > Appearance Settings > Edit Site Home Page Enter the information you would like to appear in the middle section of the home page. Step Seven Bulk Loading your Products After you complete these steps,it will still be necessary to enter your products into the eShop system. You can do this individually, or by using the Bulk Product Loader. We suggest reviewing the user manual, or use the help areas located in the cart before you begin. If you have your product database in a .csv or comma delimited file you can very easily add your products to the Magicdust eShop using the Bulk Loader. Located under Product and categories in the admin are of the cart, the Bulk Loader can bring in thousands of products with just a couple of clicks. If this is your first time using the Bulk Loader, we suggest importing only a couple of products first to understand the process and check the data structure. Once you have successfully completed a test, you can start uploading all of your data using it. Bulk loading images is a snap. eWeb - Adding HTML to your website

It is often useful to be able to add snippets of HTML code to a website, for example embedding a YouTube or Vimeo video, a Paypal button or Facebook widget.

Log into the site builder and click on the Edit Layout Tab.
Click on the New icon on the toolbar and select Widgets and then select Javascript or HTML widget.

A box will launch with some sample code in it. Delete the code.

Paste your own code into the box and press okay.
A box will appear on the page that you can move and resize. You may need to float this box over another. Please check the following sets of instructions if you are unsure:

In some cases the code will not function correctly until the website has been published.

If you find yourself having difficulty in any aspect of using your website, there are numerous avenues you can take to get help. We strive to give you confidence in using your website and the internet and wish to support you in gaining this confidence in any way we can. The benefit of learning the CMS software and how to update and manage your website on your own means you are not reliant on the Magicdust support team. While we are always happy to help you in any way we can, we also wish to provide you with resources you can use outside of support hours or on weekends.

We have built the Magicdust Support Area with this in mind. There are three areas of the support area intended to support all skill levels and will provide you information in many forms, including text, images and video.

This is a searchable index of articles, both informational and in tutorial format. Tutorials are set up to step you through individual functions of the cart, such as how to insert images or add a new page. These articles have step by step instructions and accompanying images to demonstrate exactly how to perform these tasks. Setting up email on an iPhone

This tutorial will show you how to set up your email on your iPhone.

1. If this is the first account you're setting up on the iPhone, tap Mail. Otherwise, from the Home screen choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts and choose Add Account

2. Click on Mail, Contact and Calendar on the settings page.

3. Click on Add Account.

4. Click Other

5. On the next screen, select POP

Type in your name as you wish others receiving emails from you to see it.
Under address, type in your email address.
Under host name, type in your incoming mail server. This will be in the format of mail.mydomain.com.au where mydomain is your website address.
Type in your username. This will be your email address with the @ symbol replaced with a + symbol, for example info+mydomain.com.au.
Enter your password.

6. Enter your outgoing mail server under host name. Please check our list of outgoing mail servers if you are unsure.

Leave username and password blank unless specified otherwise by your ISP.

Hit Save.

7. Your phone may then attempt to connect using SSL and will generate an error. When it asks if you want to try and set up the account without SSL, click Yes.

8. Hit the home button. To check your mail in future, click on the mail application on the dock.

How big should I make my images?

We recommend that for images to place in the general text areas of your website that the image be no larger than 500px on the long edge. This means the image should be no wider or taller than 500px depending on the orientation (portrait or landscape). Restricting the image size means that images are smaller, easier to load, and will fit within the boundaries of your website. Images that are too large can cause the layout of the website to push out or become misshapen.

If you have an eShop, we additionally recommend that thumbanils be no larger than 150px wide, and that product images are no larger than 300px wide.

eWeb - Integrating PayPal with my website

Note: You will first need to sign up an account with PayPal.

Log into the site builder
If you have a products page or similar set up that already has Add to Cart buttons on it, then go to this page. If you don't, go to the page that you wish to add the buttons to and view the instructions here to add them.
Double click on the first Add to Cart button.
This will launch a content organiser window. Click on the Link tab at the top left.
Click Add to Cart.

You will notice a Paypal form appear on the right. Click on Account Setup.

Fill in your Paypal account details and change the currency if necessary, then click OK.

Fill in the Item name, Amount, Shipping costs and so on for the Add to Cart button that you originally clicked and then click OK.

Double click on the next Add to Cart button on your page. You will not need to repeat the account set up step again, you will only need to add the Item details.
Repeat as necessary.
It is recommended that you Publish the site and do a test purchase to ensure that money is received successfully.

Setting up email in Mail for Mac

1. Go to Applications.

Open Mail.
From the menu bar, click Mail, then Preferences.

2. Go to the Accounts tab, and then click the "+" button to create an account.

3. In the Add Account window, enter your full name, email address and email password.

4. Click Continue.

5. In the Incoming Mail Server screen, select POP from the Account Type list, and complete your information as follows:

Description
The name of your account.
Incoming mail server
The mail server type is POP and the format will be mail.mydomain.com.au where mydomain is your website domain.
User Name - this will be in the format of email+mydomain.com.au (your email address with the @ symbol replaced with a + symbol).
Password - yoour email account password.

Click Continue.

6. In the Outgoing Mail Server screen complete your information as follows:

7. Check the Use only this server box.

8. Click continue.

9. The last page will outline your Account Summary. Click Create.

Finished! Send yourself an email to test that the set up has been done correctly.

eWeb - Inserting an image

Log into the site builder and select the page on which you wish to add the image.
Place your cursor where you would like the image to appear on the page.
Select the Image icon, which looks like a yellow box with mountains in it, from the toolbar.

A content organiser window should now open to allow you to select your image. If you have not yet uploaded the image then click the folder in which you'd like to store the image and then click Browse to locate the image on your computer. If you've already uploaded the image then select it from the folder in which it is stored.

Wait until the image uploads and then click OK. The image will now be placed on your page.
You can modify the alignment of the image by clicking the image alignment icons. These will place the image either centred or floated to the left or right of your text.

Note:
You can also make images links by clicking on them and then clicking the link icon. Please view this tutorial if you need help creating a link.

eWeb - Inserting a form

Log into the site builder and click on the Edit Layout Tab.
Click on the New icon on the toolbar and select Form Mailer

A form mailer box will appear on the page. Resize and position the box so that you are happy with its size and position.
To edit the content and layout of the form, go to the Edit Text tab. Leave the Submit button there and just delete the rest of the text and their text fields.
Next we will add a table to layout the form so that the fields line up. Make sure to add the table above the Submit button.
It is recommended to insert a table with two columns.
In the left column you would type in the label of your form field, ie: Name, Phone, Email, Comment, etc.

In the right hand column you can add the form fields by, clicking your cursor into a cell in which you want the field to appear, then click on the form icon on the toolbar.

Fill in the appropriate form details. The email address the form sends to must always be left to the default. If you wish to use another email address for the forms, please contact us and we will set this up for you.

The name of the field is what will display when the filled out form is emailed to you. There must be no spaces in the field name.

A text field should be used for a short response such as a name or phone number, a text area should be used for longer responses such as an enquiry.

It is recommended when the form is complete to publish the site, test the form and be sure you receive an email with the form details.

Note:
If you wish to move the form to another location on your website, you must go to Edit Layout and select the entire form box, not just the table and fields from the edit text tab. The form will not function without the box in which it was first created.

eWeb - Adding Google Analytics to your website

If you haven't already, sign up for Google analytics here: www.google.com/analytics
Once you have your Google analytics code, log into the site builder and click on the Edit Javascript tab.
Paste your Google analytics code in the box and then click your cursor in the box labeled OnLoad to Save the analytics code.

Repeat this process on every page on which you want to receive statistics.
Publish the website to activate the analytics code.

Note:
It can take up to 24 hours for the analytics code to start registering, so do not be concerned if you do not receive any readings straight away.

eShop - Shipping Methods Explained

The eShop allows for multiple shipping methods to be created and enabled on the website at any given time. There are two types of shipping: Product Level and Global Shipping.

Product Level Shipping

When you create/edit a product, there is a field to enter Shipping for that product. Entering a price into this field will trump any Global Shipping rates that you may have already defined, or may later define.

An example for using this shipping type would be if you were selling a fridge, and there was a definite set price you needed, separate from the rest of the order that the customer was placing. The total shipping price would then be combined from the product price, and then the global shipping price for the rest of the order.

Global Shipping

Global shipping options can be set up by creating Custom Shipping Methods.

Custom Shipping methods allows you to set up multiple methods based on weight, base price + weight, price-based or a flat fee per item. The advantage of using this option is that, as a global setting, you can update it at any time, and it will apply globally to any order, rather than having to go through each product and updating its individual Product Level Shipping.

To set up custom methods, do the following:

Go to "cart settings" and then "shipping management."

Click on the Custom Methods tab and then click fill in the details below.

Here is where you'll need to have a good think about how you're going to ship your items, paying particular attention to the calculation method. Australia Post is a popular shipping option. While the cart does not integrate directly with the Australia Post shipping calculator, it is possible to manually create some shipping methods based on this.

Regarding prices for shipping, you will need to go to Australia Post, or whichever courier you will be using, and take a look at the prices they charge for different weights, etc. From this, you will then need to decide how much you would like to charge for shipping, and what method would suit your best. Below are some examples for each Shipping Method that can help shed some light on the matter, and lead you in the direction that you would like to have your shipping.

Shipping by weight

You ship products nationally and wish to create shipping methods based on Australia Post rates. The recommendation here is to create several different weight-based methods for different states. For example, say for products up to 500g shipping is $5, for over 500g but less than 1kg is $10 and so on. If this rate is for all states, then select all, if not select the specific state and set up 2 weight-based methods. Note that the cart calculates the shipping per kg so for the 500g shipping method at $5 you should input $10.

Note: you will need to ensure that the correct weight is applied to all your products at a product level for the weight-based shipping methods to effectively calculate.

Shipping by base + weight

This method is similar to shipping by weight except you can add a base price to the shipping cost. This method will also require the products to have weights added to them individually. So for example, you wish to use Australia Post rates similar to above with 0-500g at $5 and 501g-1kg at $10, but with an additional shipping base price of $2 for the first 500g and $4 after that, the method would appear as follows:

Shipping based on price

It is possible to set up shipping based on price, for example a sliding scale which rewards customers for spending more money by paying less shipping. In this example, spending up to $10 is $10 shipping, spending up to $20 is $7.50 for shipping, up to $100 is $5 shipping, and spending over $100 entitles the customer to free shipping.

Shipping with a flat rate

Flat rates operate on a per item basis. In this manner you can set up shipping which either increases or decreases shipping depending on how many items the customer purchases. In the below example, a flat shipping rate exists such that 0-10 items purchased are shipped at $5 per item but if the customer purchases over 10 items, shipping is free.

Once the shipping methods are set up, it is recommended to do a series of tests to ensure that shipping is calculated correctly by the cart.

Once you have figured out which shipping method you would prefer to use, as well as the price ranges that you will charge, you will be able to enter them into the Shipping Methods page. If you know how much you would like to charge for shipping, but are unsure which method would work best for the picing structure you have, our support team can help in advising you of the best method to use.

Pixels and measuring images on your screen

What is a pixel?

A pixel is the smallest unit of programmable colour on a computer screen. On your screen this will appear as one tiny dot of colour. The physical size of a singular pixel depends on the resolution of your screen. This is all relative - a pixel will appear larger, the lower the resolution and smaller your screen.

We can use pixels to measure the width and height of images and even web pages. This is a much more useful measurement system than using centimeters or inches, as pixels are a standardised measurement which will maintain the correct proportions across any screen. Centimeters, however, can look vastly different between two different computers, dependent on monitor size and resolution.

There are many useful tools you can use to find out the pixel width of something on your screen. For example, if you are using Mozilla Firefox, you can download an add on tool called MeasureIt from here which will allow you to measure anything on your screen in pixels.

eWeb - Adding video

It is possible to embed videos from streaming sources such as YouTube or Vimeo to your website. You will first need to sign up an account to one of these services and upload your videos. You will then be able to get some HTML to embed on your website.

eWeb - Floating one box over another

Log into the site builder and click on the Edit Layout Tab.

Click the box which you want to move over another. When selected, the box will appear with small boxes around its edge.

Click the dropdown menu that says Fixed and change it to Float. This will float the selected box over all others on the page and allow you to position it wherever you need. This is helpful for such things as adding a YouTube video or a Google Map.

eWeb - Linking to a PDF or word document

Log into site builder and select the page on which you wish to add the PDF or document.
Type a section of text which will become a link, for example "Click here to download PDF".
Highlight the text.
Select the Attachment icon, which looks similar to a paperclip from the toolbar.

A content organiser window should now open; select Browse to browse your computer for the required file. Once the file is selected, click OK and then wait for the file to upload.
Once the file has finished uploading, select the file from the list of uploaded files.

Click OK.
The link will now be created.

Note:
You will NOT be able to able to test this link until you publish the site - it will not work in the site builder or through site preview. This is because the site builder does not properly form the links until the site is published.

Log into the site builder
Select the page you wish to add the Paypal buttons to.
Place your cursor where you wish the button to go and then click Add an Image icon. If you need instructions on how to add an image, click here
Click the Artwork folder, then click Buttons, then Add to Cart2

Click OK
This will place the button on the page.

The following guide will step you through uploading an image in your eshop. The image is intended for placing on the home page or any other text page.

Uploading the image

Before an image can be inserted, it must first be uploaded. Follow the steps below to upload an image.

Click on cart settings and then File Manager.

Launch File Manager.

Click on the Images folder.

Use the Upload File at the bottom of the window to upload your image. Do not modify any of the other files or folders inside the images folder as this can damage your website significantly.

Exit File Manager by closing the window

Inserting the image

Locate the page on which you wish to place the image.
Click on the Insert Image icon.

In the window that opens, click the small box icon at the end of the Image URL field.

This directly accesses the images folder, where you previously uploaded your image to. Select your image.

Click Insert and your image will be inserted into the editor.
